Jefferson County Public Schools has filed an asbestos abatement permit to remove floor tile and associated adhesive mastic from the upper-level hallway at Fern Creek Elementary, 8815 Ferndale Rd, which is owned by Jefferson County School District Fin. RH Environmental is the abatement contractor for the May 27–July 31, 2026 project; about 4,700 square feet of flooring and mastic will be removed in a non-friable, wet-method process, with waste bagged, sealed, placed in a lined dumpster for disposal at WM - Outer Loop Landfill and the area cleaned with HEPA vacuums and wet mopping when finished.
